Pretty stupid day at work. Nothing really *terrible* happened, it was just another extremely hectic day. The phones were busy, I was getting constant tasks sent by higher-ups, and it just felt like I couldn't catch my breath. (Almost literally - I didn't get a lunch break or even a bathroom break. I brought a smoothie thing for breakfast/lunch, and took maybe three sips? Plus maybe four sips of coffee? Ugh)

Our company has this new callback system that I HATE. It's a little widget thing on our website that prompts visitors to put in a phone number and get a call back from us. But it comes up in a popup thing that says DO YOU WANT A CALL BACK IN 30 SECONDS? Then they're supposed to put in their number, a preferred time, and the callback app thing calls them and our main line at that time, and it connects the calls to each other.

A) This seems spammy as fuck. I cannot personally express just how much I do NOT want any website I visit to give me a phone call.

B) I feel like our higher ups frankly have no idea how people work? Like... there will absolutely be people who put in a fake number, or the number of an ex, or a random number.
We already had a prospect system that was initially overrun by HOT SEXY SINGLES and FREE SEX VIDEOS NOW and BITCOIN INVESTMENTS spam being entered in the name fields.

To make it worse, every one of these calls is recorded by the third party and sent as a file directly to the COO. (Or if the person doesn't pick up, it sends her a message telling her that.) So then she sends them out to people in the field (it felt like they were all being sent to me, but maybe she sends them to other people, too.) She'll send them to me if the person didn't pick up the first time, or if the call seemed too short, or if the call was picked up but went to voicemail, and she'll ask me to "follow up with them."

So I'm having to call people who either weren't interested enough to answer the first time, already got a voicemail from us and are now getting another, may have already called back and been taken care of, or people who hung up because it was a wrong number/they weren't interested.

It's not QUITE cold calling, but definitely feels uncomfortably close.

And tbh, yet another check in the spammy as fuck column. If a company I wasn't even a customer of was leaving me multiple voicemails based on a single visit to their website, I would NOT want to have anything to do with them.

I mean, it's a task, and I'll do it, and it's not like it's physically difficult. I'm also trying to disconnect from it enough that my phone anxiety doesn't get too overwhelming, or that I don't take it personally when someone is upset because they did NOT actually ask for a call back. But oof, that's hard for me.
