So we had a grass fire near the office today. It was an extremely windy day, and unseasonably warm, in the midst of an incredibly warm and dry winter. The highway just about a block north of me was the boundary of the evacuation zone.

This was from the top of the hill behind the office.

One of my drivers went out about half an hour earlier and had some flames in the picture he took, though by the time I made it out, it was "just" smoke visible.

Fortunately it's now out, though with some pre-evacuation orders in place just in case there's a flare up somewhere. It didn't get terribly big, but could easily have hit areas where a lot of people live.
After the summer of 2020, which had an ENORMOUS fire that blew past our acreage record... only to be almost immediately displaced by an even bigger one a month later... any fire makes me nervous. And this one was very close, and makes me worry quite a lot for what this next summer will bring.
