Jun. 20th, 2021 08:55 pmI fucked up at work yesterday. :/
I graded a test as a -5 (a pass) and it was actually -7 (a fail.) So I have to ask the state to retract it, and I had to call the student and tell her that she didn't actually pass and needed to come back to retest.
She passed the retest, but I still felt terrible.
It's good that the internal auditor caught it same-day, despite the fact she was just doing a quick glance-over. It was also good it was the weekend, so the student hadn't been to the DMV yet, and they *were* able to come back in today.
But the state has gotten REALLY strict on their audits recently - another center's manager was suspended for 30 days due to two test misgrades, neither of which even impacted the outcome of the test. (Saying -3 when it was -4 or something, which are both passes.) So I'm a little worried that I could catch a suspension from the state, despite this being my only mistake like this in 3+ years.
Usually I'm SO GOOD about grading, too. I'm guessing I must have been distracted by other stuff while grading and probably slipped over to the wrong test version on the key, or got off by a number.
The issue has been mostly resolved (just waiting on the retraction), but it bothered me all night last night, and all day today, lol.
I told my manager, who is going out of town for a week, and she told me not to worry too much. I know it's a petty thing, but dammit, I'm always so careful! And I was off by 2, somehow! If the state does suspend me, it'll probably be sometime in the fall, since they audit several months behind (which is also stupid, since it means we get smacked on the hand for something pretty far in the past.) And if they suspend me, they suspend me; can't do anything about it now.
