A Quiet Place Part II + Chore day. Ish.
Jul. 20th, 2021 08:33 pmManaged to make at least SOME of chore day happen. I meant for it to be yesterday, but that for the most part didn't happen beyond a grocery run and fixing something on my phone.
But today we were slow to get going, but then did a lot after that.
We went to see A Quiet Place Part II, which I enjoyed! I liked the first one, too, and this one was a good continuation of it. This would be a great time for me to get back into doing horror reviews, but please, as if I have the time. So quick thoughts:
-I liked that it focused on Regan more so than the first one. She was certainly important in the first movie, and her deafness was always more than a plot device, but having her be the principal character was great.
-I came into the movie not knowing that Cillian Murphy was in it, lol. (I like him, so that was cool.)
-I realize it's just One Of Those Film Techniques, but it's one I really like, where different plotlines sync up. I'm sure it has a name other than just... synchronicity or something, but *shrug*. But there are variously two or three different character groups that the film cuts between, and a lot of them have similar events or shots happening between them that make the cuts between the perspectives flow really nicely, and I liked it.
-A lot of the action was very *satisfying*
-A few jumpscares, but not an overreliance, I don't think
-Along with the above, the movie utilized tension really well. There was a palpable sense of fear or dread, even when you're reasonably sure that things are going to work out all right.
-It did a really good job of setting up plot points. There are multiple metaphorical ticking bombs that put serious time constraints on the characters, and all of them were well set up in advance so that none of it seemed arbitrary or contrived.
-It felt very much like it felt playing The Last of Us, which I still haven't finished playing
This was our first time back in a movie theater post-Covid, and hey, cheap Tuesdays still exist. I realized I really did *miss* seeing things in theaters. I probably still wouldn't want to go to something super packed on opening day or anything, but seeing something with only two other groups of people in other rows was nice.
So that part was clearly not a chore.
After that we hit Target, and bought two more hanging clothes racks for the closet. Alex and I each had one, but sometime last week his broke (the hooks unbent and fell, sending everything crashing to the floor.) So we got one to replace that, and an additional one to try and fit the stuff that didn't before, and hopefully distribute the weight from his stuff better so that there are no more collapses.
Then came the actually cleaning up all his stuff that had avalanched to the floor, as well as all the random crap that has gotten shoved into the bottom of the closet over the last few years. And then I was able to put all my laundry away, too. I also sorted through and refolded the stuff that was already in there, and finally decided to donate some of the stuff I genuinely will not wear. It looks a lot nicer, now! It was a Project, but hopefully a good one that'll keep at least some things better organized.
I also cleaned up most of the stuff around my side of the bed that was just trash. (Empty drink containers, mailing envelopes, paper towels, etc.)
I also also paid just under half of our insurance for the next six months, with the vague hope of paying it off next month the rest of the way.
And we changed the sheets, which I am already looking forward to sleeping on, haha.
