Day 2 of NaNo + sick
Nov. 2nd, 2021 07:39 pmDay two of NaNo - still on pace, 1760 words today!
I know that usually it's encouraged to try and get as many words as possible in the early days, using the new project energy to get a word count buffer. While I've hit over on both days so far, I haven't *really* pushed for a ton extra. This is the part of the story I have fairly well mapped out, and I don't want to get to more unknown parts too quickly, haha.
-
Unfortunately, the sore throat got way worse overnight - even woke me up in the middle of the night. It's still the scratchy type rather than the swollen type, which is a minor favor, but it feels like I swallowed sandpaper, and I can't get any real relief. Hot liquids are soothing, but just bring it down to "mild annoyance" from "actively horrible", and as soon as I'm done swallowing, the relief is gone.
(I am extra whiny about sore throats. I genuinely would rather deal with almost any other symptom.)
-
Apparently two of my coworkers who report to my same manager were having meltdowns last night/today about the vaccine mandate. (Getting closer to that requirement that companies with 100+ employees have vaccination records OR weekly Covid tests.) One was pulling the "THIS IS A HIPPA VIOLATION!" thing (it's not.) The other took a half day due to "mental health" because this was so stressful.
I'm trying REAL hard to dredge up some sympathy, but I really... just don't have any. Get the fucking shot. If you won't get the fucking shot, then deal with the weekly testing. You do in fact have a choice. Stop being a fucking plague rat.
My manager has her fourth interview for a new job on Thursday. I will hate to see her go, and feel like our whole center (and group of centers that she manages) are about to just absolutely fall the fuck apart. She's been a *good* manager, in that she's tried to let most of what I do play to my strengths. But I also really hope she gets this job that pays half again as much as her current position does, without all the bullshit she deals with.
The database is still down. It's now been four full days.
-
I did find out I still have two days worth of specific sick time (HWT), so I think I'm going to stay home tomorrow, because I feel miserable.
-
Even feeling crappy, we did go drop our ballots off. Hooray for participating in the democratic process. Just got the text that my ballot was accepted.
-
We did get crickets for BCB!
