Main Reservoir
Jun. 8th, 2021 05:38 pmToday we stayed a little closer for a walk. We had some errands to run, so didn't really have time for a more serious hike. We went to Main Reservoir, which we call Pelican Pond. No pelicans today - the island in the middle of the lake is completely underwater, and that's usually where they stay. We saw between 10-15 there a couple months ago, and that many pelicans in one place is terrifying! (Not really terrifying, but they are just so big.)
It was a really warm day, over 90° again, which I think is supposed to hold for the rest of the week. The walk wasn't at all strenuous, but it was a bit over a mile and a half. Came away with sunburn, but glad to have gotten out again.

Cy was very happy that around the far side he was able to wade.

There's a quiet little side pond that's covered in cattails and is always the best spot to see redwing blackbirds. This guy was my favorite pic of the day. :)
( 13 more behind the cut - mostly flowers and birds: )
We did see several turtles, though none stayed on their sunning logs long enough for pictures.
We also saw a couple red-tailed hawks (one getting harried by some blackbirds), a redhead duck, as well as a couple other less-common ducks that I couldn't quite ID, a bluejay, heard some towhees... It's nice to have somewhere with such a variety of birds. (I've also seen eagles and osprey there in the past, plus the pelicans.)
It was nice to use both my weekend days doing something, especially as I desperately do want to get into better shape... but I'm still very not ready to go back to work, sobcry.
