A little belated, but here are the pictures from Monday! Taylor and I went to Mount Falcon (I know I just shared pictures from there a few weeks ago, but Taylor hadn't ever been there.)

We took a slightly longer route than Alex and I had - the same "castle trail" out to the ruins, but instead of doubling back, we took the "meadow trail" back.

Here are a couple of my favorite pictures above the cut:

The ruins are still really fun to look at. I'm especially a sucker for all the places where you can see through windows and doorways and gaps in the walls into multiple rooms and layers.

And a nice picturesque mountain shot, with the snow on the peaks.

9 more under the cut... )

After this, Taylor and I headed back to their house.

We watched The Old Guard which I've been wanting to watch (and forgetting to) since it came out. I really enjoyed it! As Taylor told me, it was just a pile of my favorite tropes, haha. And I would absolutely be okay with Charlize Theron starring in as many action roles as she wants, because I will continue to love watching her in them, lol. The plot was fun, the choreography was great, I'm a sucker for competence porn, I'm also a sucker for playing with immortality and what it means, and always love soulmate/undying love stuff, so it had plenty to appeal to me, ha. (I could see why so many of the Good Omens writers I'd been following jumped to The Old Guard for a while - that "immortals wandering through different periods of history" thing is a lot of fun.

Taylor also started a playthrough of Transistor for me to watch. I'm really enjoying it, so far! It's absolutely beautiful, and I've been liking the way the plot and worldbuilding is doled out. (Also, utilizing a desire to understand the plot to also get you to try different combat builds? The sheer number of different combinations you can make for said combat? Neat design choices.)

We also read more of That Ain't Witchcraft. I think we're maybe about halfway through it at the moment? I still find it such a coincidence that Taylor and I reached that one at the same time Angel of the Overpass came out, since there's such a significant overlap, haha.

And then we listened to the (quite long) Q&A for Season 4 of The Magnus Archives. I always really love their Q&A stuff, because they are genuinely super funny, and also because I love learning about some of the writing and production choices that were made very deliberately. I'm still a bit sad to now be starting on the final season, but I've very much enjoyed the series.

And that's a more in-depth rundown of what I did on Monday, lol.

I'm not missing a day, dammit.

But I am TIRED and heading to bed imminently.

I did *not* wake up with a hangover, though I didn't wake up terribly well-rested, either.

Dancing last night definitely drove home in another fashion how much my endurance has suffered. Once upon a time, we would go out to clubs two-three times per week most weeks, and I could make it through many songs without a break. Last night I felt it after one, and after a good hour or so of fairly constant movement I was hurting.

Unfortunately, I don't know that we'll go back for other Sundays, which is a shame, because my current schedule would make Sunday nights the perfect club night. But this was really more of a bar than a club, so while it had a dance floor and decent sound system, more space was devoted to the bar, and it was lit more for people who wanted to talk. Also ALL seating is by paid reservation only, and so if you don't want to pay for a "VIP table", you have to stand the whole time. Alex was uncomfortable (anxious), so he didn't want to dance at all.

Made it home by midnight though, so I didn't totally kill myself with lack of sleep.

Then today I did manage to get up and go on a hike with Taylor. :) We went to Mt. Falcon again, and took a slightly longer trail than last time. My endurance was still pretty bad, but not quite as bad as when Alex and I were there before, so either I've gotten better, or it was some other factors that led to my issues last time. I've got some pictures, but those will be for another day.

After getting back from the hike, we watched The Old Guard, which I've been wanting to see yet failing to watch ever since it came out. Then we read some more of That Ain't Witchcraft and Taylor started a playthrough of Transistor. Then we listened to the season 4 Q&A for The Magnus Archives.

And I am SO FUCKING TIRED it's unreal, so I'm going to try to be unconscious on this terribly uncomfortable loveseat.

Another good day spent hanging out with Taylor!

- We finished watching Season 1 of The Umbrella Academy
- We finished playing Okami
- We started playing Bastion
- We started reading That Ain't Witchcraft
- We finished listening to Season 4 of The Magnus Archives

Much of our hanging out is just... consuming media together, often that one or the other liked and wants the other to see/listen to/play/read as well.

I did also post that first chapter of my mermay fic... I'll dump a link tomorrow, probably. I was doing it quickly in between other stuff, so tbh I probably should fix the summary and tags, but hey, I got it posted!

But considering that I'm just like... misspelling everything right now, I should probably head the hell to bed.

There are some errands to run tomorrow, and chores like cleaning BCB's habitat, plus a couple reading/betaing things I promised that I'll need to do tomorrow, so hopefully I can get all caught up.

(Today was a dentist appointment, woohoo. But everything looks good from the ton of work I had to have done back in the fall, so that's good! Also, the toad makes noise!)

Last post from the trip!

On Sunday, we got up early (though not as early as the trip down!) so that we could get checked out of the hotel, stop back by Debby's, and then get on the road.

The weather was projected to be far better, with no storm warnings on the way back.

Seeing Debby and Grandma in the morning was nice, even though it was only an hour or so of time. We chatted some, and got to say goodbye. My grandmother insisted that next time we see her she'll be a lot more active and less tired. I very deeply hope that's true. I'm very aware that this may be the last time I see her, but I hope it isn't.

Leaving was bittersweet - my mom and Debby both cried, which made it hard for me not to.

Still, it was a good visit, and I'm so happy that I got to go along.

For the trip back, again we listened to some of Taylor's music on shuffle, and then a few episodes of The Magnus Archives. (And we hit some *really* good episodes. Cul de Sac is one I'd heard people mention before, and it was real good, because suburbia is real creepy, ha. Concrete Jungle also stuck out to me, as did the one where Martin interviews Simon.)

We stopped for gas around Santa Fe again, and made really good time the whole way.

The trip was pretty uneventful, which is kind of good, so there's not a lot else to say. Mostly I've got pictures of the landscape from the moving car, ha.

Some mesas and distant mountains.

Seven additional pictures below the cut )

We got back into the Denver area around 6:00 or a bit later - making it about a 9-9.5 hour trip this time. Alex had gone to bed with a headache, and hadn't had a chance to go take care of Raven for the evening. Instead of dropping me off first, my mom and Taylor decided to go home first. That way we could take Raven out, I could help them unload the car, and then they'd drop me back at my apartment.

Unfortunately, we got to their house and their internet was down, which prompted an hour+ of trying to figure out why, paying a bill for a second time, failing to get through to customer service, etc. (Taylor was worried, since they work at home, and had to be back on Tuesday. They were worried that waiting until Monday would take too long to get reconnected.) It had not been sorted out before my mom left to get me home, so I don't know how it was sorted, but I know it's since been fixed.

Finally I came home, which felt nice. I would have been happy to stay in NM longer, but it was still nice to be home, with Alex, petting my own dog.

Today was stupid. My whole day was set aside to train a new person... and she quit right before she was supposed to come in. She made it through onboarding and the state system training, and quit before lunch! Allegedly her reason was "I don't understand why I need to know all of this." So... glad she bailed before she wasted my time, lol. (Also she barged into my location's office, no mask on, didn't introduce herself, and just shoved her training binder at me telling me she was "returning this", before they'd even let me know she was quitting, so... extra glad she's not actually going to be here.)

But here's my habit tracker for last week!

And I gave myself a ~fancy~ spider sticker, because it was my birthday week, and I can.
(Also, this specific spider makes me think of A Guest For Mr. Spider from The Magnus Archives. Just me? Probably, but the creepy cartoony look seems fitting for a monstrous evil children's book. It even has the a web in the background.)

ANYWAY.
I was reasonably happy with the week. It included my birthday, but then also some very frustrating days, with the pre-blizzard and the issues at work regarding whether I was allowed to take time off.
For my extra goals:
- I did NOT edit chapter 6 of Steffi's book
- I finished my reread of All Strange Wonders
- I finished Taste of Marrow
- I cleaned the middle shelf on my white bookcase
- I didn't post about River of Teeth (still), but may combine the two books

For the actual habits:
- Work - 5/7
- Household Maintenance - 2/7, which is all right
- Physical Activity - 2/7, which is still better than I often do
- Wrote 500/1000+ Words - 0/7, but with 6 days of less than 500 words. My effort needed to be on rereading, so I wasn't expecting a high wordcount, and I'm just glad for the consistent progress.
- Meta Work - 6/7, which is great! (Again, the meta category was in part so that I wouldn't feel guilty for low wordcounts when working on other aspects of a fic, like research or planning. So I'm glad I get to use that category.)
- Personal Writing - 7/7, still!
- Other Creative Things - .5/7, really just doing the layout for my habit tracking, lol
- Reading - 7/7, both fic and physical book. Nice!
- Video Games - 0/7, what is time
- Social Interaction - 7/7, also good!

Total words of fiction written: 500 words on All Strange Wonders

500 in a week isn't 500/day, but again, this was a meta-heavy week rather than a writing week.

Also, hot damn, 10 weeks of habit tracking! An arbitrary round number, but that feels pretty good. :)
