Had a weirdly productive day. Well, weird for me, lol.

I've been neglecting my at-home cleaning projects, so I knew I wanted to do some of that today. And I did!

I dusted the stuff on the wall around my side of the bed, and finally got my bedside table cleaned off. Hauled it away from the wall enough to pull out some stuff that had fallen behind and gotten stuck. Then I even cleaned out the top drawer. Often times the drawer is pulled out and basically serves as a "shelf" that extends the table surface (mostly it's where my pens and books and stuff live.) I got it cleaned up and to the point the drawer closes!

We ran a couple errands. We went to pick up Cy's meds from the vet, then tried to go to our independent pet store, but today is apparently the ONE day they're closed for inventory. So then we went to Petco for one of their supplements (since two of the last four times I ordered it online, the package hasn't been delivered, with some bogus message about being "left in the mailroom," which does not exist.) We also got crickets.

I took a nap. Then I woke up and Alex took a nap, lol.

I also got the lights taken down from the little Christmas trees, and put away all of the bigger ornaments, including the ones that have their own packages and such. The trees themselves still need to be put away, and we have to *get* to the closet to really put things away, but it's just about done.

Then I emptied the dishwasher.

-

Other "eventful" thing that happened: Alex fell asleep before the time we usually take the dogs out, so I took them out on my own. Not usually too much of a problem, though wrangling one super energetic dog + one that's old and slow and completely deaf is sometimes a challenge.

We barely got outside the building when a woman yelled out "Watch out for that dog! It's aggressive!"

A big husky was running over at us. Collar, but no leash.

The other woman came over and said that it had attacked her dog earlier. I was trying to get both Cy and Bella wrangled back to me, and the husky just kept running around and at us. (Its body language wasn't super aggressive, mostly playful, but that can change VERY fast.)

I was worried about Bella - she isn't aggressive, but she does not like dogs running up to her. While she's never started anything, she is very quick to react if another dog makes any aggressive moves toward her. I was shocked that she *didn't* snap at this dog, because it at one point ran up and started posturing at her, shoving its chest into Bella's side. Bella had hackles a mile high, and growled a very little bit, but she was extremely good. Cy just wanted to play, and then ignored everyone else to go pee in the snow the instant my attention was focused on Bella's interaction with the stranger dog. And then he peed on the husky because it tried to duck under him.

The woman even remarked that she was so surprised that my dogs weren't getting upset or going after this other dog.

The other woman was on the phone with someone else, and told them that she'd reported the dog. According to her it belongs to someone squatting in one of the abandoned buildings in the area, but I haven't seen the dog around before. She tried to help distract the dog away from us (while understandably not wanting to try and grab it or anything), until I was able to pull both of them back inside with me. (I wish I'd said more to the other woman; I thanked her for the warning and the help, but wish I'd asked after her dog. I was just so focused on trying to get Cy and Bella away from it before anything went badly.)

We had to go out the basement garage to let them finish their business out back.

Ugh. I am so worried about things like that happening. Because even if MY dogs are leashed and behaving themselves, if they defend themselves against another dog that starts something, it's all too likely that they'll still be the ones in trouble because they're pit bulls. But at least this time everyone was lucky, including the husky.

Then we weren't back inside for more than fifteen minutes or so when there was a very loud car accident right outside the building.

Fun times!

I gave myself another four-day weekend, this time to attend Denver Pride on Saturday. It's the 50th anniversary of Denver Pride this year!

Saturday:

Sunday:

We started by visiting the park! It was already stupid hot, but we wanted the dogs to get to walk around outside for at least a little while.

I took pictures of bees, but right now my photo-embedder thing is timing out, so I will have to share those later.

Mostly, we had to clean. )

Monday:
We'd braced for having to do nothing Monday and Tuesday, since we didn't know when it would be our turn for the apartment inspection, and we weren't allowed to leave the dogs in the apartment unattended/unconfined. Since it's so hot, we can't take them anywhere either, so we were going to have to stay home until it was our turn.

Well, they came to our apartment first thing on Monday morning at 8:30, ha. Score! It took them all of maybe 90 seconds, so it definitely didn't require as much cleaning as we did, but it'll still be worthwhile for us to have a better environment. The guy was nice, and he said that it was preventive, not in response to any issues. (I hope that is the truth. Having a friend here going through a bedbug war right now, it sounds AWFUL.)

Buuuuuut... despite no longer having to wait around we also didn't have any plans for the day, since we'd assumed we'd be stuck home.

Alex went down to the county services office to try and sort out an issue with some of his benefits, which wound up being a very frustrating appointment. (They want a letter from his psych provider, which they did not include anywhere in their redetermination list. And his provider just moved to NY.)

After that, he was annoyed and just wanted to take a nap.

I finally got around to making more boards to put my enamel pins on! I've been trying to do that for months and months, and just never manage to get around to it! I'm really happy with them, but again, I apparently can't embed photos at the moment, so that'll be a later share.

Today:
We filled out our ballots and dropped them off. We took the dogs to the park to give them a good brushing, because oof, so much shedding!

Ran some needed errands, including over to the vet to put in a new request for refills on Cy's meds, since the voicemail on the px line we left weeks ago never got returned. Also hit the grocery store.

I wish we'd done a bit more with the long weekend. It's likely to be the longest stretch I'll have off for a while, and I feel like I wasted it a bit, minus going to Pride. But at the same time, it meant that all the cleaning and responsible errand-running didn't take up ALL my time off for a given week, which feels better too.

Plus I really am happy about getting the pin boards done, as well as quite a lot of reading. (I am finally halfway through The Name of the Wind. Why is it so looooong?)

Today did not include as much catching up on everything as I had hoped, but it wasn't nothing, either.

The vast majority of the day was devoted to doing laundry, which means going to the laundromat. (There is a laundry room in our building, but the machines don't work well, half of them are usually out of order, people steal things, you have to use a proprietary card that you pay for through their website... it's just not worth it.)

We actually did... ALL the laundry this time. There's been a bag of sheets and towels that have been put off for months and months at this point, and they're finally washed!

Even more impressively, I put all my damn laundry away immediately when we got home!

We also got some stuff sorted for the show we're going to on Friday, and I played cheer section for Alex getting a couple of painting projects close to complete.

We also got both Cy's and Bella's nails trimmed. They tend to be quite good about it, but it's still a process that they don't love.

-

Tomorrow I have a dentist appointment, and then am going in for half a day at work. I have Friday-Sunday off, because we have a model show on Friday, and I took Sat-Sun off both for a recovery day, and because the horse expo is happening all weekend and we may want to go back.

Dreading the dentist appointment, because I feel like I'm stuck still dealing with the long stretch of bad (nonexistent) dental care that I had. I think there's some wear at the edge of an old filling, and almost every time I seem to have some new thing that needs addressing.

Even more, I'm dreading our impending weather. We are supposed to get a snow storm that is likely to be measured in FEET coming in tomorrow and lasting through Thursday. That is NOT great for getting to and from work on Thurs, which is my only full work day this week. It is also not great for having to get around early on Friday morning, which is when the model show starts. This is one of those "destination" shows, so there are people from all over the US flying in, and a lot of them are worried about flights being cancelled and such. We live near enough, but if the roads are bad, that's still going to be a struggle.

I'm really hoping we get less snow than is being threatened, but every time a new forecast comes out it's with higher totals!

(And I can very much feel it moving in. All my joints hurt!)

Well, today was somewhat ~productive~ at least. Just not on the things I'd hoped it'd be! But I did get a couple overdue cleaning projects done, and that feels good at least.

- Did a grocery trip. (Wound up being a bigger trip than intended, but there were some decent sales on stuff we needed anyway.)
- Got coffee while we were at the store. They have a big board set up with a "who is your valentine?" question, and sticky notes to write your answer on. Upsettingly, there was one with a nasty antisemitic slur written on it smack in the middle. Alex took it down and threw it away. I hope it hadn't been there long.
- Alex was finally feeling up to helping me put up the plushie nets. (Woven nets that hang in the corner of the wall, for holding stuffed animals. Bought them back in January as a "maybe this will help me with organization of a thing that's been a mess" and then did nothing with them because of this whole bronchitis thing. (Day 29 of it for me and still improving, day 15 of it for Alex and just starting to improve.) Unfortunately neither Alex nor I are able to resist the allure of Cute Soft Friends, which had resulted in quite the plushie mountain along one wall.)
- Before hanging those, realized that... ew, that's a lot of dust. So vacuumed and then dusted the walls and everything on the walls, plus a few other nearby surfaces.
- Did the plushie management, lol. Oh so many of them, but they are better contained! About half are now in the nets, and the others fit much better in the cloth bins that I'd originally intended for the purpose. Still kind of a pile, but not one that's in danger of collapse.
- Watered plants.
- Did final prep and gave my NaMoPaiMo model a good wash. (Alex also prepped his, so hopefully it's warm enough tomorrow that we can dart outside to get them primed.)

Not present on the list of productive things: starting the actual model painting (which is understandable, because it has to be primed in order to do that.) Writing (which is less understandable, because FUCKING HELL. I did get a few hundred words written last week, but I am seriously struggling to figure out why it's like pulling teeth every time.)

We cleaned! Alex and I cleaned the kitchen (because we live with a bunch of fucking pigs who won't do a damn thing.) Seriously, we make very few dishes... and the sinks were full of shit that was getting mold and turning rancid. So. Disgusting. Alex has almost always been the one who eventually has to clean that shit up, though today we both worked on it.

And now I'm trying to 20/10 [a method from the glorious Unfuck Your Habitat, where you spend 20 minutes cleaning and then take a 10 minute break, so you don't get burned out too quickly] my way through some of the mess in our room. At least our room is mostly just MESSY and not actually FILTHY the way the kitchen was. Ugh.

We've got less than a month to find somewhere new to live, and as stressful and awful as that search and move will be, I'm really fucking looking forward to not living with the people we live with now.

After the cleaning, we'll go out again tonight... I'm hoping it'll be better than New Years Eve was. :P
